About Me

Been doing endurance since 2004 on own and other peoples horses.  I have always ridden my stallion barefoot however I had been making the mistake like many in doing a farrier type trim and takeing the edges off to minimise chipping being very gently not to take too much off the quarters etc.  After perepairing him for this years enduance season, I found that nearly every time I rode him that I had to round out the chips in his hooves, I got concerned as to me it looked as if I was running out of hoof, they were looking warn out (I didn't know that what I was doing was more the ideal for barefoot trimming) so I put shoes on him before I ran out of wall to nail on.  Well what a mistake his hooves never looked poorer, (we are only talking two sets of shoes).  I know people who barefoot at endurance and after being lent a horse that was previously barefoot competing I looked further into it.  After looking into Pete Ramey's site and simular I phoned my husband and told him I was removing the 'boys' shoes (we had only put them on two days earlier).  Since then I have done one of Andrew Bowe's clinics which I found concured with what I had sort of worked out.  So here at Mossvale now most of our horses look like their feet are worn out, and those that don't I'm getting to.
